The 2017 action comedy American Made dramatizes the life of notorious aviator Barry Seal and his role in the Iran-Contra scandal of the 1980s.
In the movie, Tom Cruise portrays Barry, a pilot who risks everything to further his personal goals, those of other government organizations, and the deadly Medellín Drug Cartel.
The former pilot turned drug dealer makes millions of dollars smuggling cocaine between nations while conducting clandestine CIA operations; his home is brimming with cash.
The character Lucy played Deborah DuBois, Barry Seal’s third wife. The movie was inspired by the life of Barry Seal, a former TWA pilot.
Lucy Seal, Barry’s wife, supports him as he amasses wealth for himself through progressively riskier ventures. The story creates a likable arc for Barry through her character and the rest of his family, including his three kids, making the audience feel connected to him.
Likewise, Lucy’s role adds poignancy to the plot by experiencing sadness on screen, influencing the movie’s conclusion.
Given the film’s strong real-life inspiration, viewers will undoubtedly wonder about Seal’s real-life wife and her current circumstances.

Deborah Dubois obscure life away from the spotlight
The Seal family experienced a tragedy on February 19, 1986, when Barry Seal was shot and killed outside of a Salvation Army center. Following her acquaintance’s news of her husband’s passing, Deborah attempted to take her children to Barry by car.
Deborah related her incident, saying, “I stopped at a pay phone because I was stuck in traffic.” I said to them, Deborah’s friend, that I was unsure which hospital to visit.
Debbie, please go home, they urged. He’s not visiting a medical facility. I informed my kids that their dad had passed away. I brought them back to their house. I went to the kitchen after that and started crying.”
Because Barry was involved in drug trafficking and other criminal activities, the IRS was able to seize a large portion of the pilot’s homes and belongings after his death.
Deborah and her children had to rely on Barry’s life insurance, abruptly downsizing from a lavish lifestyle to one of modesty.
Deborah failed to locate the alleged offshore accounts with millions of dollars. Deborah claimed, “If he made the millions of dollars they claimed he did, he was holding out on me.”
Deborah continued to remain curious about the circumstances surrounding her husband’s murder even years after Barry passed away, especially in light of some odd correspondences she had received from one of his killers.
Deborah spoke with the unidentified man three times, each time asking her to see him to find out who was responsible for Barry’s death. However, the man’s communications were cut off before much more could be revealed.
Deborah questioned, “Now, if common knowledge is the cartel did it, why would he tell me there’s something else?” about this occurrence. That seems like a confession on one’s deathbed. However, I’m not allowed to see him.
Deborah Seal now leads a private life away from the spotlight. The woman came to the public’s attention in the mid-to-late 2010s with the release of “American Made,
” but she only shared a limited amount of personal information. “I’m concerned that, following the movie’s release, people might emerge from hiding.”
Attention to myself bothers me. However, I don’t expose myself too much because I don’t use social media. I’m personal,” the woman remarked.
So, based on the last records known to exist, Deborah, who never got married again, lived with her daughter Christina. Other than that, not much is known about women’s private lives.
