Gabriel Iglesias Biography

Gabriel Iglesias, a stand-up comic, actor, and voice actor better known by his nickname “Fluffy,” has grown to be among America’s most successful comedians for his material addressing the ups and downs of contemporary life as well as his own experiences being an extra-large man.

Gabriel Iglesias was born on July 15, 1976, in San Diego, California. His mother purposely misspells the last name as a sarcastic protest against Gabriel’s father, who neglected to show up when she entered labor.

Before settling in Long Beach, where he spent most of his boyhood, Iglesias and his family lived in several California cities among six children.

Inspired by Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, and Paul Rodriguez, Iglesys developed an interest in comedy and started touring neighborhood bars throughout the day while employed by a cell phone firm.

Although his family urged him not to quit his day job, in 1997 he did exactly that, determined to work on his comedy full-time.

His breakthrough piece, Hot and Fluffy, a 60-minute stand-up special, debuted in 2007. Iglesias’s catch line, “I’m not fat, I’m fluffy,” emerged from the show and became a big hit on Comedy Central as well as on DVD release.

Another big hit was Iglesias’s follow-up, I’m Not Fat…I’m Fluffy in 2011; that same year he also became producer and host of a comedy showcase series, Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution.
