Dagmar Midcap leaves CBS Atlanta’s WGCL-TV
Since taking over as the lead weather anchor for WGCL-TV in January, Dagmar Midcap has drawn much attention. September 3, 2010, WGCL-TV, the CBS affiliate, received a notice from prominent weather reader Dagmar Midcap this morning.
She was unsure of her last day because her managers were not present. WGCL-TV news director Steve Schwaid reached out on Friday afternoon, stating she was still bound by her contract and offered no further remarks.
Why She Quit
Midcap, who started attending WGCL in 2007, stated that her boyfriend’s suicide in July 2009 was the catalyst for her decision to leave.
To help her deal with her loss, she has been seeing therapists and a bereavement counselor. She hasn’t been able to get a good night’s sleep and has nightmares. She mentioned taking medicine and sleeping pills.
She said, “I can’t keep doing that.” “It’s beginning to impact my life.” On the air, I was unable to think. She added that she might have some voice cord damage from stress, which worries her that it might not get better.
Only minutes after submitting her resignation, she stated in a tearful interview at the Silver Skillet in Midtown on Friday, “Doctors told me my body is breaking down.” “I have to leave this place. It’s just too hard for me to proceed.
While WGCL has been a fantastic experience, she finds it difficult to live where she first fell in love since everything makes her miss her late partner.
Not about a year after coming to the station, on March 31, 2008, she inked a four-year contract that would last until 2012.
(She said she was asked to stay five by the station.) Both the viewers and the station welcomed her. Her face appeared on billboards after management switched her shift to the evenings.
“Making people happy has been my job,” she stated. The notes she has received say things like, “I gave them joy at the end of the day, a smile,” from the 100-year-old guy to the 20-year-old woman. That was my responsibility. “It was difficult to find that joy” after his passing.

She said that neither party could agree on a date despite her best efforts to negotiate an early contract termination during the previous three months.
Shortly after arriving in 2007, Midcap met her boyfriend. He lived next door. They were quickly enamoured with each other.
Their first date was with Martinis & Imax at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. One of his favourite places was Stone Mountain Park, which they visited. She stated, “We were inseparable.” For me, he was everything. My best friend was him.
However, she tried to open his world because she sensed his fragility. They visited the North Georgia mountains, Seaside, Florida, Asheville, North Carolina, and Charleston, South Carolina. Hoping he would move in with her, she purchased a house outside Decatur.
She mentioned that the previous time she had seen him, he had come to her house carrying an apple pie and some flowers from Whole Foods.
He promised to stay by her side forever and expressed regret to her for his negativity. She remarked, “I felt he was making a breakthrough.” “I didn’t get what he was saying.”
