HBO has formally canceled The Outsider following a successful 10-episode run for its first season. The network will cancel the show despite its great reviews and increasing popularity.
The cast and crew were ready to carry on with the story; scripts for season two had already been completed. HBO has decided not to renew The Outsider, although the show might find a new home on another network.
The show, based on the same-titled novel by Stephen King, centers on a murder investigation tinged with mystery, doubt, and the weird.
In it, Jason Bateman (The Gift, Arrested Development) plays Terry Maitland, who is taken into custody on charges of killing a little child called Frankie Peterson.
When further killings occur, and the mysteries of Cherokee City, Georgia, are revealed, detectives Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) and Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo) are determined to find the truth. Both critics and viewers praised The Outsider during its run on HBO.

Why Did HBO Cancel Outsider Season 2
Even though it is acknowledged to have had the biggest increase in viewers for a season 1 finale in the network’s history, the show was nevertheless canceled.
HBO canceled The Outsider after just one season, even though creator Stephen King had previously stated the show would return for a second. Now, we know why the show was abruptly shelved.
HBO Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said in an interview that The Outsider was canceled because the story wasn’t compelling enough to continue beyond the first season.

We handle things as though Season 2 is on the horizon. It’s never easy,” Bloys remarked. And while working on a project that is based on a novel is always difficult.
The Outsider has a clear path forward. Thus, you must be certain there is a story to tell if you plan to move forward and do more without it. We thought the plot would only stand up to the first season.”
The company behind the drama series adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, MRC, has been pitching the series elsewhere to other “premium networks and streamers,” even though HBO has decided not to proceed with a second season. There needs to be word on whether other streaming platforms have chosen to carry The Outsider.
